CLIMATE TIME MACHINE

An art installation to feel the climate future with all your senses

As many people still do not realize how serious the climate crisis is, the Climate Time Machine is intended to enable them to experience first-hand what the future will feel like if we do not act decisively now.

Experience the climate future we are heading towards with (almost) all our senses. The cabin is heated to the maximum temperatures that can be expected in the coming years. This temperature is measured by a temperature sensor and converted into the year in which these maximum temperatures can be expected using a mini PC based on a table created by the “Scientists For Future”. This year is shown as “Destination Time” on a display on the time machine.

In addition, you are given VR goggles in the time machine, in which you are transported to a virtual city environment of the future: Withered trees, dry ground, heat shimmering over the hot asphalt, dried-up fountains, deserted streets and advertising posters adapted to suit your needs.

The aim is to convince people who are not yet aware of the urgency of the situation, if not to convince them, then at least to encourage them to reflect on the situation.

The climate time machine was developed in 2022 by Viennese photographer and “Artists For Future” activist Tom Poe for the launch event of the “Es brennt!” campaign was developed. (artistsforfuture.at/esbrennt/)

Due to the great interest, it was decided to continue the project and construct a new transportable version of the time machine, which has been touring Austria ever since.

It is possible to hire the time machine for events or project days, including transportation to and from the event, assembly and dismantling and supervision.
